NEWS: TIMBERWOLVES EYE BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS | Other News and Info... | ||
March 10th The Timberwolves club are on a quest to become the first team in the history of the FNQ Super League to win consecutive back-to-back championships. After securing the Minor Premiership with a 12-win & 3-loss record, the reigning Champions stormed past the Mulgrave Magic in their Semi-Final matchup, 98-52. Timberwolves have once again been the form team of the competition, out-classing their opponents on a weekly basis. With one of the most talented rosters in the League, the Timberwolves have blended a solid mix of experience and youth into a well-drilled unit, which other Super League teams have had difficulty defending. Vice-Captain Dean Brebner said that his team wasn’t really concerned with winning Championships, but about consistently improving week-in and week-out. “It’s never been about wins and losses for our group. It’s about getting better each week as both individuals and as a team. We know if continue to do that we’ll be in a position to play for the Championship each season,” Brebner said. Brebner who was named in the League’s All-Star Five along with teammate James Comino, has had an outstanding season averaging 19.4 points per game and was also a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year Award. In last year’s Super League grand final, Brebner won Most Valuable Player honours after he poured in team high 22-points to lead his Timberwolves team to a 77-63 victory over Phoenix and will be looking to contribute in a similar role in this Sunday’s Grand Final rematch. “My job will be to get my teammates involved first and then look for my own scoring opportunities second,” Brebner said. “We have threats offensively all over the floor so it makes it easier for me to pick my moments.” The Grand Final between Timberwolves and Phoenix tips off at 4pm this Sunday (March 15) at the Bendigo Bank Basketball Centre, with free entry for all. 2008-09 TIMBERWOLVES FNQ SUPER LEAGUE ROSTER #4 Grant Gonsalves #5 David Dimla #7 Travis Thorne #8 James Comino (c) #9 Brent Khalu #10 John Fa’aoso #12 Kris Whelan #13 Dean Brebner (vc) Coach: Dwayne Vale |
